Man charged in deputy sheriff's shooting death

A 35-year-old man is facing murder charges in connection to the early Saturday shooting death of an off-duty deputy sheriff at a Kapi'olani nightclub.

John Koa Lorenzo Jr. is being held in lieu of $1 million bail in connection with the death of state Deputy Sheriff Daniel Browne-Sanchez, 27.

Browne-Sanchez was shot three times during a botched robbery at the Osake Sushi Bar and Lounge on Kapi'olani Boulevard.

Lorenzo, 35, was charged with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree attempted murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Browne-Sanchez is the first state deputy sheriff to be shot and killed. He was working at Osake as a bartender.
