Advertiser Staff

A 17-year-old girl was arrested this morning after she smashed a stolen car into a concrete barrier at a city park in 'Ewa Beach.

Police said a patrol officer spotted the girl and a man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, standing next to car when he was patrolling the area about 12:05 a.m.

The officer told the pair to leave since the park was closed for the evening. He then drove off after making a mental note of the car's license plate number.

Moments later, the officer learned a 22-year-old woman had filed an earlier complaint saying the car had been stolen.

The officer then turned around to go back to the park and reportedly saw the car take off from the parking area and crash into a concrete pillar.

The officer arrested the girl behind the wheel on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

The man who was in the car when it crashed ran away, police said.

There were no injuries.
