Big Island's DUI total jumps with 30 arrests last week

Police on the Big Island arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving from Feb. 6 to Feb. 12, bringing the 2007 DUI total on the island to 150, 43 more than the same period last year.Of the 30 arrests last week, 11 of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and four were under the age of 21.
Big Island police also reported an 11 percent decrease in major accidents over the same period last year. So far, there have been 255 major accidents on the Big Island in 2007, compared with 286 during the same period last year.
