David Stant Jr., a former Kahuku High and University of Hawaii athlete, has been named head varsity football coach at Kamehameha Schools, the school announced in a press release.

Stant succeeds Kanani Souza, who coached the varsity team from 1996 to 2004, and in 2006. Souza is the athletic director at the Kapalama campus school.

Stant, who played for Kahuku in 1981 and at UH from 1987-'89, joins Kamehameha after coaching and serving as general manager for IBM-Japan's corporate professional football team in Tokyo. He has worked in Japan's highest-level professional football league since 1990.

"David brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and proven track record as a head football coach to the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama High School program," Souza said. "He has won four Divisional championships, three League championships, and three National championships in Japan's highest-level professional football league. He is one of the most respected football minds in Japan."
