Morning Light yacht completes Moloka'i run

The Morning Light team got its first taste of what the Transpacific Yacht Race will be like this summer when it completed the first of two 138-nautical-mile trips around the island of Moloka'i and back.The Morning Light team was formed to prove that a youthful team from diverse backgrounds could compete in a major ocean race. The team's progress and experience is being captured in a documentary film that is being produced by Roy E. Disney and Leslie DeMeuse of Pacific High Productions in association with Disney Studios.
It is scheduled for theater release early next year.
The trip for the Transpac 52 crew of 15 started at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday, leaving from Diamond Head, and finishing at 10:45 a.m. yesterday.
The second of four monthly training sessions will wind up Tuesday at the end of another run around Moloka'i, with no instructors on board.
Meanwhile, the team will do its first race as part of the host Waikiki Yacht Club's Opening Day ceremonies Saturday and its second with the Hawai'i YC's Opening Day on Sunday.
