UH business school gets $250,000 for professorship

Advertiser Staff

A California couple has donated $250,000 to create an endowed professorship at the University of Hawai'i's Shidler College of Business.

John and Sue Dean's gift will be combined with $250,000 in matching funds provided by real estate entrepreneur Jay Shidler to create the John and Sue Dean Distinguished Professorship. In September 2006, Shidler donated $25 million to the university to transform its business college into one of the top-25 such programs at public universities.

This is the first endowment to use the $3 million in matching funds that were set aside for endowed faculty positions, scholarships and programs at the business school.

John Dean is managing general partner of Startup Capital Ventures, a private equity fund that invests in venture capital funds and startup technology firms. Startup Capital Ventures does business oversees as well as in Hawai'i.
