All clear in mortar shell incident at Manoa fire station

Advertiser Staff

The police bomb squad has removed a suspected mortar shell that was lying on the lawn in front of the Manoa Fire Station on East Manoa Road.

The road was reopened shortly after 10 a.m., when the shell was removed.

Fire Capt. Clyde Shimabukuro said the object was rusty and looked like a "small blimp with fins on it."

According to the fire station log, it was brought in at 7:25 a.m. by a city employee believed to be a bulk rubbish worker.
