Santa Barbara snaps UH baseball winning streak

Steve Morelock fired a three-hitter to lead UC Santa Barbara over Hawai'i, 3-1, today at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Morelock (1-1) walked one and struck out nine to snap UH's five-game win-streak. He retired the last 16 batters.

Ian Harrington (2-2) allowed three runs, seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings for UH (7-3).

The Gauchos (2-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first against Harrington. Patrick Rose reached on a single after a pop up behind the mound that no one got to. He took third on Robbie Blauer's ground single to right; Blauer took second on the throw back to the infield. Mario Lewis' ground out to shortstop advanced the runners to give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead and Mike Zuanich's sacrifice fly to right made it 2-0. before Matt Anderson struck out to end the inning.

The Rainbows got one back in the fourth. Jorge Franco led off with a single, but was caught stealing. Jon Hee walked and took second when Justin Frash grounded out to first. Hee then scored on Kris Sanchez's line single to center before Eli Christensen struck out to end the inning.

The Gauchos increased their lead in the fourth. Mike Zuanich walked and one out later took second on Chris McMurray's single. Valaika's single scored Zuanich to make it 3-1.
