American Airlines a possible buyout target

American Airlines, which flies to Hawai'i from the Mainland, could be in for new ownership.

Shares of AMR Corp., parent of American Airlines, rose as much as 4.4 percent after Business Week reported that the world's largest carrier may be a buyout target, Bloomberg News reported.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc., British Airways Plc and other investors may offer as much as $11.1 billion for the Fort Worth, Texas-based company, Business Week said on its Web site, citing people familiar with the matter.
