Roosevelt takes 3rd in boys soccer state championship

Punahou meets Kalani tonight for the Meadow Gold Dairies/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer State Championship at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

THIRD PLACE

Roosevelt 2, Leilehua 1: Roosevelt, the winner of the OIA East, defeated Leilehua, the OIA West champion.

Roosevelt's Sean Oshima scored to tie the game after the Rough Riders were down by 1 in the 66th minute on an assist from Alex Fowler, who dribbled down the right side to the endline and crossed the ball on the ground to Oshima.

Junior Leslie Nwapa scored with less than a minute remaining on a penalty kick.

Leilehua's Micah Uehara scored in the 52nd minute after the Mules passed the ball around before the ball came loose in the 18-yard box and Uehara shot a high ball into the goal.

FIFTH PLACE

Kamehameha 1, Kamehameha-Maui 1: The game, played without any overtimes, ended in the tie after the teams each scored a goal in the first 15 minutes.

KS-Maui senior Mitchell Navarro scored in the eighth minute, and Kamehameha's Brent Canida answered in the 15th minute.

SEVENTH PLACE

Kapa'a 1, Kealakehe 1: Kealakehe's Kirk Verzon scored in the ninth minute, and Tyler Angelder tied the game with two minutes remaining for Kapa'a.

No overtime is played for the consolation championship.
