Earth to Golf Channel: Hawai'i is a state, too

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i became the 50th state of the union back in 1959, a fact apparently lost on The Golf Channel's Inga Hammond.

Twice during The Golf Channel coverage of the SBS Open at Turtle Bay yesterday afternoon there were cutaways to the station's Golf Central studio, where Hammond welcomed viewers with an update on what was happening "stateside" at the Nissan Open in Los Angeles.

Not only is Hawai'i a state, but, as former vice president — and better than average golfer — Dan Quayle once said about Hawai'i: "It is in the Pacific. It is a part of the United States that is an island that is right here."
