Rainbow Wahine's WAC game rescheduled

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball game originally scheduled for tonight has been postponed until tomorrow because of travel problems with visiting Utah State.

The Western Athletic Conference game will be played tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The game will be telecast live on K5 and broadcast on ESPN Radio 1420.

Bad weather in San Francisco forced the delay of Utah State's flight from Salt Lake City to San Francisco and the Aggies missed their connecting flight to Honolulu, the school said.

The Aggies are scheduled to arrive at 5:30 p.m. today, according to UH media liaison Neal Iwamoto.

"Whenever you involve air travel and water, things are going to be difficult if there are delays," Utah State head coach Reagan Pebley said.

This is the second time in five months that a sporting event between Hawai'i and Utah State has been postponed.

A women's soccer game scheduled for Oct. 15, 2006 was postponed because of an earthquake, Iwamoto said.

In 2001, the Hawai'i women's basketball team had to reschedule a game after it got stuck in Salt Lake City en route to El Paso, Texas, for a contest against UTEP. That game, originally slated for Dec. 30, was rescheduled for Jan. 4, 2002 in Hawai'i.

The 'Bows (12-12 overall, 6-6 WAC) are riding a season-best five-game WAC winning streak.

Tomorrow's contest will feature two interim coaches: Hawai'i's Pat Charity and Utah State's George Brosky.

Charity is filling in for Jim Bolla who is on an undetermined leave of absence following an undisclosed surgical procedure on Feb. 5. Brosky is substituting for Pebley who gave birth on Jan. 30.

Charity is 3-0 leading the 'Bows.

Brosky is 2-2 since taking over the Aggies (10-13, 6-5).
