Hokule'a, 2 other vessels moor at Majuro Atoll

Advertiser Staff

Alingano Maisu, Hokuleca and escort boat Kama Hele and their crews are safely moored in the lagoon of Majuro Atoll tonight.

The Hokule'a crew saw the tops of a coconut tree this afternoon when the voyaging canoe was about 12 miles away from the Majuro Atoll.

The Hokule'a and Alingano Maisu left Kealakekua Bay 26 days ago. The two voyaging canoes, traveling at 6.5 knots, made landfall by evening to provide a break for the crews.

"We would like to commend Chadd Paishon for excellent navigation on board Alingano Maisu, the lead canoe from Johnston Atoll to Majuro," Kathy Thompson said.

After some rest, crew changes, reprovisioning and refueling of the escort boat, the voyage should continue on to Micronesia in a few days.
