Science projects on display at UH-Hilo

HILO — The public is invited to 'Imiloa Astronomy Center, on the grounds of the University of Hawai'i-Hilo campus, today through Friday to view the more than 100 student projects in the 20th annual Hawai`i District Science and Engineering Fair.

The science and engineering projects, submitted by students at 13 middle and high schools in East Hawai`i, will be available for free public viewing.

Tomorrow, Presidents Day, is a school holiday, and `Imiloa Astronomy Center will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to encourage students, families and friends to see the student submissions. (The center is usually closed Mondays.)

Many school groups have scheduled field trips to `Imiloa Astronomy Center to see the Science Fair exhibition.

An awards ceremony at 7 p.m. at UH-Hilo's Campus Center Plaza will recognize this year's student participants as well as other individuals and organizations in the community who have had a major impact on the district science fair over the past 20 years.

This is the first year that the student exhibits have been made available to the public for viewing for several days at `Imiloa.

There is no charge to see the Hawai`i District Science and Engineering Fair. Admission applies for the`Imiloa exhibits and Planetarium.

`Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai`i is located at 600 `Imiloa Place in Hilo, off Komohana and Nowelo streets. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
