Airport parking hard to come by this weekend

Advertiser Staff

Aloha Airlines was urging travelers to find alternate parking solutions when they arrive at the Honolulu International Airport today and tomorrow.

Valet service was not accepting any more cars at the interisland parking structure.

However, parking was available at the overseas parking garage, a spokesman for Aloha Airlines said.

The state Department of Transportation said it was a typical traffic pattern for a three-day weekend.

Scott Ishikawa, DOT spokesman said the department is aware of the inter-island terminal parking shortage. The department is seeking bids on a new 1,000-stall parking garage between the interisland structure and the overseas parking garage, Ishikawa said.

"We hope to break ground this summer," Ishikawa said. "It should take 18 months to build."
