A sea of people in uniform turned out today to say goodbye to a fallen officer killed while off duty.

Daniel Browne-Sanchez, 27, was shot and killed during a holdup at Osake Sushi Bar and Lounge on Feb. 10.

Services began at Borthwick Mortuary and continued with a pass in review in front of the State Capitol.

Sections of Beretania Street to Maunakea Street were closed for the procession. A 3 p.m. burial service was scheduled at Kewalo Basin near where Browne-Sanchez's ashes were to be strewn in the ocean.

The brief ceremony included a roll call and a 21-gun salute. Flags were to be presented to the family, and a Drug Enforcement Administration helicopter was to release flowers over the ocean while the remains were scattered into the sea.

"Dan was a regular guy," said sheriff's deputy Johnnie Kukahiko. "He's a hero. "

A suspect has been charged in the death.
