Rough Riders take third

Roosevelt, the O'ahu Interscholastic Association East champion, defeated Leilehua, the OIA West champion, 2-1, yesterday in the third-place game of the HHSAA boys state soccer tournament.

Roosevelt's Sean Oshima scored to tie the game 1-1 in the 66th minute on an assist from Alex Fowler, who dribbled down the right side to the endline before crossing the ball on the ground to Oshima.

Junior Leslie Nwapa clinched it on a penalty kick with less than a minute remaining.

Micah Uehara scored in the 52nd minute after Leilehua successfully passed the ball around before it ball came free in the 18-yard box and Uehara shot a high ball into the goal.

FIFTH PLACE

KAMEHAMEHA 1, KAMEHAMEHA-MAUI 1

The game ended in a tie after each team scored in the first 15 minutes. There was no overtime.

Kamehameha-Maui senior Mitchell Navarro scored in the eighth minute and Kamehameha's Brent Canida in the 15th minute.

SEVENTH PLACE

KAPA'A 1, KEALAKEHE 1

Kealakehe's Kirk Verzon scored in the ninth minute and Tyler Angelder tied the game with two minutes remaining for Kapa'a. There was no overtime.
