Former HPU runner wins Great Aloha Run

Elite runners take off from the Aloha Tower starting point for the Great Aloha Run today. About 18,500 were officially entered in the event.

Former Hawai'i Pacific University runner Christian Madsen of Denmark and Nicole Hunt of Montana were the winners in today's 8.15-mile Great Aloha Run.

About 18,500 were officially entered in the annual event that takes runners and walkers from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium.

Madsen finished in 42:24 and Hunt in 49:39. Times were official.

Another HPU runner, Brandon Laan, of Ontario, Canada, finished second overall in 43:07. Taking third was Jacob Puzey of Oregon in 43:18.

In the women's race, Bree Anne Wee of Kona took second in 49:57 with Laura Fanelli of Pennsylvania taking third in 50:24.

A husband-and-wife team won the wheelchair competition.

John Greer won in 45:08 and Christine Greer won in 52:35.
