Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old man injured yesterday at Kahuku Motocross Park died later at Kahuku Hospital.

Police said the man lost control of his motorcycle and fell. The man was injured at the top of the park area and was taken by Emergency Medical Services personnel to Kahuku Hospital at about 2 p.m.

His death will not be counted as an O'ahu traffic fatality because it occurred on private property.

DECK HAND PULLED FROM WATER DIES

A 23-year-old man who was brought to shore yesterday at Fort DeRussy beach by a city lifeguard died later at Straub Hospital & Clinic.

Police said the man was a deck hand aboard a boat and got in trouble in the water.

City Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the man was found in waters about 50 feet deep at 1:15 p.m. The lifeguard had been in the area to assist the Coast Guard with separate distress call when he responded to the call to find the man, Cheplic said.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office did not release the man's name.

A 44-year-old man was charged Saturday with first-degree attempted murder and other charges stemming from a Jan. 17 incident in which he drove off in a stolen vehicle, nearly striking a police officer who was approaching on foot, police said.

Reed Murdock DePratter, who has no permanent local address, was arrested by officers Saturday on the 41-300 block of Kalaniana'ole Highway on five outstanding warrants totalling $9,925. He was booked at the Kane'ohe Police Station for the alleged Jan. 17 offenses.
