University of Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan and Rainbow Wahine All-America setter Kanoe Kamana'o were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year for 2006 by the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Brennan and Kamana'o also were named Adult Athletes of the Year — spanning college to age 35.

The announcements were made at the club's 60th Annual Banquet of Champions last night at the New Empress Restaurant. Four longtime club members — Paul Durham, Chris Faria, Les Keiter and Al Minn — were also honored. They represent nearly 200 years of club membership and involvement.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann earned the Neal Blaisdell Award for his work in supporting and encouraging women's sports, particularly basketball; baseball great Wally Yonamine received the Scotty Schuman Award for his support of college scholarships and the state high school baseball tournament, and Hawai'i football coach June Jones was named the George Archer Coach of the Year.

Punahou volleyball and basketball star Spencer McLachlin, and Punahou golfer Stephanie Kono were named Prep Athletes of the Year. Betty Ann Barnett-Salle (swimming) and Robert Taylor (track) were named outstanding senior athletes.

In two newly established categories, football official Jim Beavers received the Earl Galdeira Award for outstanding and dedicated officiating, and Jim Leahey received the Les Keiter Award for sports journalism excellence. Lydia Lake received the Joe Reynolds Award for volunteer service to the club.

Also recognized were several national championship teams, including the American Youth Soccer Organization winners from Kahuku, Mililani and Diamond Head; two Bobby Sox softball champions from Mililani; the national Junior Olympic champions from the Onipa'a Volleyball Club; the Holomua 50-over women's soccer champions, and the Hilo Cal Ripken Jr. baseball champions.
