Advertiser Staff

The first holder of the newly endowed Charles Simonyi Chair in the Public Understanding of Science, and a fellow of New College, at the University of Oxford, will be the featured speaker today in the University of Hawai'i-Manoa Distinguished Lecture Series.

Professor Richard Dawkins' free lecture is from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Manoa Campus Center Ballroom. His presentation is entitled "Queerer Than We Can Suppose?: The Strangeness of Science."

A UH news release shows that Dawkins has written numerous best-sellers on evolutionary biology, science and religion; these include "The Selfish Gene" (1976; second edition, 1989), "The Extended Phenotype" (1982), "The Blind Watchmaker" (1986), "River Out of Eden" (1995), "Climbing Mount Improbable" (1996), "Unweaving the Rainbow" (1998), "A Devil's Chaplain" (2003), "The Ancestor's Tale" (2004) and "The God Delusion" (2006).
