H-1 crash victim identified as Texas man

Advertiser Staff

The man killed Saturday in a collision on the H-1 Freeway near Kapolei was identified today by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office as Royce W. Tomlin, 49, of Seagoville, Texas.

According to family, Tomlin had come to Hawai'i for work and was planning to return to Texas early next month for a visit. He has three children.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said Tomlin was driving a sport utility vehicle westbound on the H-1 when it crashed into a barrier, sideswiped a Ford Expedition and flipped over. The Expedition hit a guardrail and flipped over. The collision occurred 592 feet west of the Farrington Highway overpass at 7:15 p.m.

The driver of the Expedition, a 46-year-old man, was arrested for investigation of first-degree negligent homicide and failure to give information and render aid. He was released pending further investigation.
