Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation tonight at the scene of an apartment fire at 607 North King Street, which caused $20,000 damage to a third-floor unit.

The man, who lives alone in the Akepo Arms unit where the 6:35 p.m. fire broke out, did not require hospital treatment, said city Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The Honolulu Fire Department had the fire under control at 6:46 p.m., 11 minutes after receiving the call.

Fire Department spokesman Capt. Sigmund Oka estimated damage at $20,000.

The resident is receiving assistance from the Hawai'i Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
