Nevada's Fox finalist for national coach of the year

Associated Press

RENO, Nev. — Nevada coach Mark Fox, the only coach in school history to lead the Wolf Pack to more than one 20-win season, has been named one of 15 finalists for a national basketball coach of the year award.

UCLA's Ben Howland, who won last year, Butler's Todd Lickliter, Florida's Billy Donovan, Wisconsin's Bo Ryan and Ohio State's Thad Matta are among the other finalists for the 2007 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award.

The award named in honor of longtime Mount St. Mary's Coach Jim Phelan will be presented to the winner at the NCAA's Final Four in Atlanta.

In his three years as head coach at Nevada, Fox's record is 76-15. The 11th-ranked Wolf Pack (24-2) are the only team in NCAA Division I with only two losses as they bid for their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. Two victories came against Hawaii, one in overtime and the other on a controversial call at the end.

The other finalists for the award are:

Washington State's Tony Bennett, Texas A&M's Billy Gillispie, Southern Illinois' Chris Lowery, Winthrop's Gregg Marshall, Rhode Island's Jim Baron, Memphis' John Calipari, Virginia Tech's Seth Greenberg, Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings and Jacksonville's Cliff Warren.
