UH softball team (12-2) sweeps Loyola Marymount

The University of Hawai'i softball team relied on effective pitching and power hitting to sweep Loyola Marymount, 1-0 and 14-1, Wednesday at Smith Field in Los Angeles.In the seventh inning of the first game, Kate Robinson hit her fifth homer in two games to support Justine Smethurst's 2-hitter. Smethurst (4-2) had six strikeouts.
In the second game, the Rainbow Wahine hammered six homers three to lead off innings.
Playing for the first time since suffering an injury a week ago, Tanisha Milca hit two home runs a leadoff shot in the first and a three-run drive in the second. Gail Matsushima and Amanda Taualii each hit their first collegiate homer.
"I proved myself," said Milca, who started in right field. Of her second homer, she said, "It was a battle. She pitched all around me. It was 3-and-2, and the pitch came down the middle."
The Rainbows went 7-1 on this road trip, and are now 12-2 overall.
