Big Island police arrest 21 for DUI in one week

Big Island police arrested 21 motorists for drunk driving from Feb. 13 to Feb. 19, six of whom were involved in traffic accidents and four who were under the age of 21.The 2007 total for DUI arrests on the Big Island stands at 171 -- 44 more than at the same time last year.
Big Island police also reported that there has been 298 major accidents so far this year compared with 332 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10 percent.
There have been seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with six during the same period last year.
