Honolulu '06 inflation up 5.9%, biggest rise in 15 years
Advertiser Staff
Rising housing prices helped boost the cost of living in Honolulu by 5.9 percent last year, the biggest jump in 15 years. The increase was larger than most economists had predicted. Economists had generally expected inflation to slow during the last six months of 2006 after an unexpectedly sharp rise during the first half the year.
The increase was pegged primarily to rising housing costs, according to the U.S. Department of Labor yesterday, which released its Consumer Price Index today.
