Applicants sought for Maui summer jobs program

Maui County officials announced Tuesday that applications are available for the county's 2007 Summer Youth Employment Program.

Applications can be picked up at the Li¯hu'e Civic Center, Mo¯'ikeha Building, Department of Personnel Services, suite 140, or mayor's office, suite 235,or at any neighborhood center. They can also be downloaded from the county's website, www.kauai.gov .

The deadline for turning in an application is April 20.

High school or college students 16 years or older can apply.

Numerous positions will be offered in various county departments this summer – mainly recreation aides, but there are also postings for interns, clerical workers, golf course aides, as well as beach and pool lifeguards.

In addition, a limited number of positions will be available in the private sector as a partnership with the county and local businesses.

Supervisory positions are available for qualified adults as program coordinators and site managers for the County's Summer Enrichment Program as well.

The county's summer intern program will provide six weeks of employment from June 18 through July 31. Employment in the Summer Enrichment program will also run for six weeks, from June 8 to July 23. The golf course aide program will begin on June 8 and end on July 20.

The beach and pool lifeguard program is slated to start the first week in June.

All applicants selected for employment are required to pass a drug-screening test and/or successfully complete a fingerprinting and criminal history record check.
