Man, 46, charged in Kalihi home break-in incident

A 46-year-old man with 16 prior convictions and no permanent local address was charged yesterday with misdemeanor criminal trespassing and property damage for allegedly attempting to break in to an Umi Street residence in Kalihi.

Pedro O. Ortiz Jr. was arrested Tuesday after a witness called police to report a man using a crowbar to gain entrance into a home. Ortiz was initially arrested for felony first-degree burglary but was charged on misdemeanor counts, with bail set at $4,000.
