Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation last night at the scene of an apartment fire at 607 N. King St. that caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a third-floor unit.

The fire broke out at about 6:35 p.m. in the man's Akepo Arms unit. He did not require hospital treatment, said city Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The Honolulu Fire Department had the fire under control at 6:46 p.m., officials said.

Fire Department spokesman Capt. Sigmund Oka estimated the damage to the structure and contents at $10,000, respectively. The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Red Cross provided assistance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
