Glanville to be interviewed for Portland State job

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

University of Hawai'i defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville today confirmed he is a candidate for the head coaching job at Portland State University.

"We have an interest in each other, and we'll see where it goes from there," said Glanville, 65.

Glanville said he arrives in Portland Sunday and will have face-to-face interviews with PSU officials Monday and Tuesday.

He is scheduled to leave Portland Wednesday.

Like all UH assistant football coaches, Glanville has a one-year contract that expires March 31.

He was head coach of two NFL teams — Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons — before going on a 12-year hiatus, during which he worked as a TV football analyst and race car driver and owner.

Until today, Glanville had declined to comment on the situation.
