Chinatown offers Sunset-on-the-Beach spinoff event

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

As part of an expanded Chinese New Year's celebration and a validation of Chinatown's revitalization efforts, "Movie Nights in 'A'ala Park" will be launched tonight and tomorrow at the site just beyond Chinatown.

The movie program, a spinoff of the city's Sunset on the Beach format, was a Bright Idea Award winner — part of the city's plan to involve community suggestions for downtown improvement. The park will feature food and craft booths, rides and stage entertainment, beginning at 3:30 this afternoon, and at noon tomorrow. The films begin at 7 p.m. tonight and tomorrow.

Tonight's program will feature "Mission Impossible III," starring Tom Cruise.

Tomorrow's program presents two Jackie Chan features, "Shanghai Noon" and "Shanghai Nights."

Admission is free.
