Rich Budnick, author of "Hawaiian Street Names: The Complete Guide to O'ahu Street Names," will be signing books from noon to 1 p.m. tomorrow at Borders in Ward Center.

The book, co-authored by Duke Kalani Wise, offers the English translations of O'ahu's Hawaiian street names.

It has been out of print for 10 years after selling 11,000 copies. This version is updated and includes about 700 recently named streets.

Some of the stranger names:

  • Pokapahu Street in Diamond Head means "bursting bullet."

  • Ilipilo Street in Kailua means "smelly skin."

  • Hepa Street in Waipahu means "idiot or imbecile."

Also, Budnick will give a free workshop on how to get your book published at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Kaimuki Public Library.

    The event is free.
