Disc golf players gather for fundraiser tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu disc golf players will gather in Kane'ohe's Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden tomorrow for one of their biggest events of the year.

The annual Shave Ice Bowl is a fundraising event for the Hawaii Foodbank.

During the competition, players participate in a game much like a traditional round of golf, but use golf discs (Frisbees and their relatives) instead of a ball. The players try to throw discs of varying weights (akin to using a driver, iron and putter) into a steel basket mounted on a pole. The player with the lowest number of throws over 18 holes wins.

The competition runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park. Spectators get in free.
