KAILUA
Art poacher abducts coot

Advertiser Staff

A bronze sculpture of the endangered Hawaiian coot has been taken from its home at the corner of Hamakua Drive and Hekili Street.

The bird is part of the "Gathering Place" artwork created in 2001 by Jodi Endicott, who noticed the piece missing on Monday.

A police report was filed, but Kane'ohe Ranch, which commissioned the piece, said the bronze has little value and that the bird is marked with identification.

Kane'ohe Ranch and the artist are asking for the return of the coot, "no squawking and no questions asked."

Anyone with information can call Marcia Murakami at 263-8912.
