UH water polo falls at UCLA

Top-ranked UCLA routed No. 4 Hawai'i, 16-7, yesterday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo match at Los Angeles, Calif.

At the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center on the Bruins' campus, Jillian Kraus and Katie Rulon scored four goals apiece for the Bruins (7-0, 3-0 MPSF).

Hawai'i (6-4, 4-2) was led by Kristy Bagnall and Lisa van Raalte who each tallied two goals.

Rainbow Wahine goalie Meike De Nooy made eight stops.


BASKETBALL

CU MEN, WOMEN WIN

Zack Whiting had 24 points and 13 assists as Chaminade routed Hawai'i Pacific, 93-68, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's game at Mid-Pacific Institute gym.

Stewart Kussler added 16 points for the Silverswords (15-11, 7-7). Rishi Kakad and Adam Snyder scored 19 points each for the Sea Warriors (10-16, 4-10).

Brittnee Fonnesbeck had 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead Chaminade past Hawai'i Pacific, 68-60, last night in a PacWest women's game at Kilauea gym.

Katherine Carlisle added 14 points for the Silverswords (5-18, 4-10). Constance DeCaires had 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (2-24, 2-12).

OWENS AT SPEED CAMP

Chad Owens, a former football All-America receiver/returner at UH, will be the guest instructor at the Hawai'i Speed and Quickness clinics tomorrow and Sunday at the UH athletic complex.

The clinics are open to boys and girls in the eighth grade or younger. Each session is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The $10 fee includes coupons to Jack in the Box and Jamba Juice.

UNLV LEADS BY 10

The University of Hawai'i and UH-Hilo men's golf teams are in 19th and 21st place, respectively, entering today's final day of the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course.

Nevada-Las Vegas (277—554) leads the 22-team tournament by 10 strokes over BYU (285—564). Hawai'i shot (295—593) and UH-Hilo (296—602).

UNLV's Jarred Texter and Southern Methodist's Frank Wrenn share the lead at 10-under 134.

Hawai'i's Ryan Perez shot 73-143 to lead the local contingent. He's tied for 25th.
