California rallies past Rainbow Wahine in water polo

Vanessa Lindsey scored in overtime to lead fifth-ranked California to a 5-4 victory over No. 4 Hawai'i the quarterfinals today of the UC Irvine Invitational water polo tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in Irvine, Calif.

Hawai'i (8-5) plays host UC Irvine tomorrow in a consolation match.

UH took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter on the first of three goals by Angela Turnbull and Kelly Mason. Cal tied it at the half on Melissa Wheeler's goal.

Turnbull scored in the third and fourth quarters to give UH a 4-2 lead with 6:25 to go in regulation. But the Bears scored two unanswered goals to send it into overtime.

Lindsey scored what proved to be the game-winner with 1:24 remaining in the 3-minute overtime period.
