25th anniversary fete planned for Ho'omaluhia

Advertiser Staff

The city plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden with a ceremony Thursday at the Kane'ohe garden's visitor center.

The ceremony will include a presentation on Ho'omaluhia's origins as a flood control project by the city and the Army Corps of Engineers and its evolution into a unique facility with a renowned collection of tropical plantings and endangered water birds.

The garden is visited by more than 100,000 people each year who hike, camp, picnic, fish, watch birds, get married, hold meetings and more.
