Advertiser Staff

Jimmy Yoshida, veteran Island musician, will be awarded the "Teacher of the Century" award at an International Brotherhood of Magicians award banquet Wednesday at Buffet 100 in Ward Warehouse.

Yoshida, who performs as Tengu the Magician, also is marking his 87th birthday on March 9. Magic fans know him for his longtime Magic & Novelty Center he operated for years on Alakea Street.

Yoshida previously earned membership in the Hall of Fame of the Society of American Magicians in Hollywood. He has taught three generations of magicians here, including Jon Hirokawa, Alan Okawa, Robert Wyndam, Mike Ching and Alson Inaba.
