The University of Hawaii men's basketball team is ranked No. 88 among 336 Division I basketball-playing schools in the latest Rating Percentage Index (RPI) released today. The RPI helps determine the at-large bids for the 65-team NCAA Tournament.
UH (16-12) plays its final home series this week on Thursday against Idaho and Saturday against Boise State. It will be coach Riley Wallace's final game after 20 years as UH's coach.
UCLA (24-3), which is No. 2 in The Associated Press poll, is No. 1 in the RPI list with Ohio State (26-3), No. 1 in the AP poll, No. 2. Washington State, which is No. 13 in the AP rankings, is No. 27 on RPI list. Nevada of the Western Athletic Conference is No. 10 in the AP poll but No. 19 in the RPI.
The RPI has been used by the NCAA since 1981 to supplement the selection of at-large teams and the seeding of all teams for the NCAA basketball tournament. This list is an independent duplication of the RPI without input from the NCAA. The basic RPI is derived from three component factors: Division I winning percentage (25) percent, schedule strength (50) percent; and opponent's schedule strength (25) percent. Games against non-Division I opponents are not used in calculating the RPI.
