WAIPAHU
Teen safety funds awarded

Advertiser Staff

Waipahu High School students were presented with a $2,000 check by State Farm Insurance to educate their peers and the community on the dangers of driving.

Waipahu is one of 10 high schools in the Islands to win a "Shift Into Safety" grant from the company. Students from the schools crafted campaigns designed to help change teen thinking and behavior while behind the wheel.

The Waipahu check was to be presented during the school's recent "Be Safe Fair."

Statistics show that youths are four times more likely to get into crashes than older drivers, according to State Farm.
