HAWAI'I KAI
Median work finishing early

Advertiser Staff

A contractor hired by the city to demolish about 120 feet of the median strip down Lunalilo Home Road will be finished in mid-March, a month ahead of schedule.

Site Engineering Inc. is being paid $92,500 to move two trees to the park next to Koko Head Elementary School and redo the roadway, said Richard Torres, city Department of Transportation Services deputy director.

The median is being trimmed at the intersection of Kamakanu Street and Lunalilo Home Road because customers have a difficult time getting into nearby businesses. The median, built in 2004 over objections from community residents, cost more than $1 million.
