Roosevelt to get artificial surface

A $5 million project to install synthetic turf at Roosevelt High is scheduled to start in October, said Keith Amemiya, executive director of the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association.
The project, which includes replacing the field's dirt track with an all-weather surface, is expected to be completed in May 2008.
The three football teams that use the field — Roosevelt, McKinley and Farrington — will have to play at other sites, said Rodney Iwasaki, athletic director at Roosevelt. The school's soccer and track teams also will have to find alternate sites.
The project is funded by the state, an NFL grant and fundraising by alumni.
