WHALE COUNT — The Hawaiian Island Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking volunteers March 31 to assist with the Ocean Count, which collects data on whale sightings and behavior at more than 65 sites off O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island. POUHALA MARSH RESTORATION — The Hawai'i Nature Center is restoring Pouhala Marsh in Waipahu. Volunteers are needed to pull pickleweed and mangrove 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 17. PU'U WA'AWA'A SERVICE TRIP — The Sierra Club is organizing volunteer service trips to Pu'u Wa'awa'a on the Big Island on March 24-31. Activities include planting, invasive-species control and fence repair, with time for hiking in a forest bird sanctuary. Limited to 12 people; must be Sierra Club members. WEED & POT CLUB — Maui Nui Botanical Garden's Weed & Pot Club meets 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at 150 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului to work on nursery plants and perform other tasks. Tools, gloves and drinking water provided; bring sunscreen, wear shoes.
