Els-designed 'Ewa golf course on track for 2009 finish

Advertiser Staff

Grading is complete on the western half of the future 18-hole Hoakalei Country Club being designed by pro golfer Ernie Els, who said the course will become O'ahu's longest at nearly 7,400 yards.

Els, during a site tour last week, also said most holes will feature water hazards, including an eight-acre slow-moving river between the 8th and18th holes.

The course and club facilities are being built by Haseko and Club Corp. as part of Haseko's master-planned Ocean Pointe community under development with homes, a boat marina, future hotel and commercial center.

Grass planting on the west nine is slated to start in June. The course on 248 acres is expected to be finished in early 2009, after which construction of the hotel and commercial center are slated to begin.
