Brian Derby named Damien football coach

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawai'i offensive lineman Brian Derby today said he has been appointed varsity football coach at Damien Memorial School.

Derby, 43 and a Honolulu firefighter, succeeds Dean Nakagawa, whose contract was not renewed after last season. He had been serving as an assistant at various schools over the years and was a graduate assistant to then-UH coach Dick Tomey in 1986. He also has conducted offensive linemen camps for the past 10 years.
