University of Hawai'i defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville, 65, is expected to be introduced as the Portland State head football coach this afternoon.

PSU officials have scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.

"We have nothing to say at this time," said Glanville, who has been in Portland since Sunday.

But he told The Adverertiser he postponed his scheduled departure from this morning until tomorrow.

UH assistant coach Mouse Davis said he was told Glanville "was going to accept it." But Davis thought the announcement would come tomorrow and not today.

Davis was a successful Portland State head coach in the 1970s and 1980s, using his run-and-shoot offense to set national records. Davis is expected to join Glanville's staff as an offensive coordinator.

"He was pretty excited about everything," Davis said. "He wants the job. He was concerned about some areas, and they've tried to work with those areas. They're compatible with his thoughts."

Davis, who was June Jones' head coach at Portland State in the 1970s, has been an assistant on the UH staff.

The Portland Tribune reported on its Web site that Glanville has accepted the job.
