TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"America's Next Top Model" return, 6 p.m., CW (digital cable channel 93). The 32 contestants seem to bring this show its richest variety yet. There are more plus-sized models, more tattoos, more street smarts, more people with zest and humor. Add the usual model types, and you have fun possibilities. The show hams it up at first, tossing the women into a pretend boot camp. Even that works, because of the wit of two of the regulars, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander. Then the field is trimmed to 13 women who are assigned to an issue-oriented photo shoot. Most do so-so, but it's an interesting start.

"Lost," 9 p.m., ABC. We're back to one of our favorite characters who has admitted Hurley isn't his real name. He's Hugo Reyes, who has plowed through resentment toward his selfish dad (Cheech Marin). We see that here, plus his obsession with reviving an old car on the island. It's a muted, interesting episode that ends with a power-punch when Kate figures out a fresh link to the Others.

OF NOTE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. The women, who were sensational last week, have their second round. Ten sing tonight; two will be eliminated Thursday.

"Jericho," 7 p.m., CBS. The show returned last week with a terrific hour that explained key background: Hawkins was one of the guys hired to haul nuclear-bomb material to various cities. He didn't do it, kept the money and bought a house in Jericho, Kan. Now the bombers — we still don't know who they are — are tracing him. Tonight his worlds merge when he brings his apparent girlfriend Sarah into his home with his wife and child.

"Friday Night Lights," 7 p.m., NBC. With her family falling apart, Lyla tries to meet her former boyfriend, the injured quarterback.

"George Lopez," 7 p.m., ABC. George is trying to prove that Vic's fiancee is a cheating gold-digger.

"Knights of Prosperity," 7:30 p.m., ABC. After almost being caught last week in Mick Jagger's apartment, the team decides to steal from Kelly Ripa instead. She plays herself with Eugene pretending to be an architect.

"Criminal Minds," 8 p.m., CBS. The team seeks a New Orleans killer who was originally believed to be killed in Hurricane Katrina.

"Sit Down Comedy With David Steinberg," 8 p.m., TV Land. After last week's terrific session with Jerry Seinfeld, Steinberg chats with Robin Williams.

"Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" 8:30 p.m., Fox. Here's the second half-hour sampling of this fun-concept show. Then it moves to its regular night (Thursday) and length (an hour).

"In Case of Emergency," 8:30 p.m., ABC. Here's a funny episode that was scheduled earlier, then delayed. Harry is supposed to get on the good side of Jason's mom (Jane Seymour). He overachieves and an affair begins.

"Medium," 9 p.m., NBC. The "S.O.S. Killer" (Eric Stoltz) has escaped. That's bad news because he wants revenge, and Allison helped convict him.
