Chinese New Year makes us think of our elders and their well-being. The Palolo Chinese Home Auxiliary is selling 12-ounce jars of handmade mango butter (the ladies peeled and prepared 500 pounds of mangoes!) to benefit the Palolo Chinese Home. The jars are a steal at $4.50 each (jars half that size go for $6 at Longs). The mangoes are from the Home grounds and are grown without the use of pesticides.

The label lists all the 2006 activities for the Home; these women keep busy. To arrange to pick up a jar or two, call the Home at 737-2555, or auxiliary member Elsie Ching at 373-2066.

TELL US YOUR BEST RECIPES

In the Islands, post-game potluck breakfasts, lunches and dinners are the norm in soccer, football, baseball and other sports leagues, with parents sharing the duties of preparing an al fresco spread for the whole team. These things get pretty elaborate, with food stations, gas grills and amazing recipes.

We'd like to hear about your best potluck cooking and packing techniques, and to share your best potluck recipes with readers. Send them to Wanda Adams, Food Editor, The Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802; wadams@honoluluadvertiser.com; fax, 525-8055. Be sure to tell us how many people the dish serves and to include all can or package sizes. Mahalo!
