Driver killed in fiery one-car crash on Big Island

Advertiser Staff

A fiery one-car crash late yesterday killed one person, Big Island police said.

The driver of the vehicle was found dead at the scene, and police have not been able to determine whether the victim is a male or a female.

Police said the accident happened about 10:20 p.m., when a 1993 Saturn four-door sedan lost control while traveling west on Palm Parkway, ran off the left side of the road and erupted in flames.

The victim was taken to the Kona Community Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Officer Sharlotte Bird at (808) 326-4646, ext. 229.
